February 2025 Student of the Month: Kyrah
When did you start your pole journey?
I started taking a few classes in the fall of 2021. I was not consistent and eventually discontinued entirely. I tried again in 2022, but still did not build a routine. It wasn’t until Dec 2023 I began attending classes on a weekly basis.
Why did you decide to try pole classes at Pole Pressure?
I wanted a new way to stay fit. I didn’t enjoy going to the gym - I was preoccupied with everyone and everything around me. Plus, it was boring Lol. In undergrad, I was a dancer and have experience playing rugby both in college and primary school. I’ve been searching for something I can make my own and that gives me the same euphoric feels as dance and rugby did.
What do you love most about pole classes at Pole Pressure?
I enjoy connecting with others who understand the art and expression of pole. I love building a community and support system with individuals who want to transform part of their life through pole. At Pole Pressure, the instructors are phenomenal and patient - they make sure each dancer, regardless of their level, is tended to and felt seen and comfortable. I am challenged every time, even if I don’t want to Lol. I feel like I don’t have to pretend to know it all or push myself too much. I can be me and show up as my authentic self.
If you could train with any of your pole idols, who would it be and why?
I would love the opportunity to train with Shelly (@fitbyshelly)! She’s amazing and witnessing her journey was truly inspiring.
What motivates you to train?
This has be one of the few things I’ve committed myself to and it means a lot for me to have come this far in a matter of 12 months. I always want to learn and want to get everything right ASAP, but pole has given me a reality check Lol. This process is delicate and requires patience. I’m in for the ride!
What are some of your goals for this year?
I want to work more on flow work, flexibility and conditioning.
Why do you love Pole Pressure?
I love the atmosphere, instructors, the professionalism and opportunities with competition and showcases. Also, it’s a great space to connect with other pole dancers.
