August 2020 Student of the Month: Nadia
When did you start your pole journey at Pole Pressure?
I originally started my pole journey in 2012 while our studio was located in Balance Gym. I decided I wanted to fully commit and train in August of 2018 and I've been consistently pole-ing ever since!
Why did you decide to try pole dancing at Pole Pressure?
I would like to say I am a strip club connoisseur :) My love for pole dancing began with going to various strip clubs. I was so amazed by the confidence and strength of the exotic dancers. I wanted to know how they did those tricks!? From there on I began YouTubing pole dance videos. In college, I came across competition videos of the Amazing Jessalynn Medairy and found out she owned a studio right here in DC.
What do you love most about pole dancing at Pole Pressure?
POLE PRESSURE IS LEGIT MY HOME!! I love how everybody is always friendly and supportive. You will always feel greeted and welcomed in our studio. If you need help thinking through a trick, a spot, or encouragement it's all here for you. I love how we cheer each other on in class and at competitions. There is always something new to learn here! I've had the pleasure, watching people safely and comfortably build their self-esteem and bodies in our classes. I am Thankful for pole mamas like Sarah Hill, Julia Siewe, Khristina Marcus, and Daphna Kalman for all their extraordinary teaching!!
Why do you love Pole Pressure?
We are a family. PPDC Fam for life {drops mic and dramatically walks away} !!
What are some of your goals for this year?
To get back to training consistently. It's been hard in the pandemic space without a Pole. But I am thankful for our virtual classes and the instructors making accommodations for us pole-less friends! I want 2021 to be the year of the handsprings, Backbends, square splits, and aerial tricks for me!
If you could train with any of your pole idols, who would it be and why?
I'm obsessed with Annakia pole not just as an artist but as a really dope person. She coached me for my first competition. I would love to train with her more. I want to learn all the sexy spin pole combos. I would also love to train with MedusaMamiii because I love her slithery exotic style. As well as the Queen of low flow Carmine Black.
What motivates you to train?
The short answer "Hoe stuff with my friends". The long answer is pole dancing is my artistic outlet and Goddess work. It is my self-care. Pole dancing is my prayer work for myself. It provides me an intense workout where I truly feel physically challenged. It is the first sport I fell in love with after running. I love conditioning just as much choreographed dance routines. I feel the sexiest when I feel strong. So I'm motivated by controlled movements, heel clacks, body rolls, hair flips, and split drops. Watching my pole sisters and pole community on social media also keeps me motivated to train harder.
