JUNE 2024 Student of the Month: Jez
When did you start your pole journey?
January 2021.
Why did you decide to try pole classes at Pole Pressure?
I wanted to do something that would push me as far outside my comfort zone as possible. As a transgender, non-binary person, pole dancing in very little clothing surrounded by very fit, very athletic, and generally very femme people has been exactly that.
What do you love most about pole classes at Pole Pressure?
The fact that I can exercise without getting bored, and that I get a chance to learn how to move and control my body in a way I had traditionally been blocked from. It’s also good for the gender feels to be in a space not dominated by masc energy.
If you could train with any of your pole idols, who would it be and why?
Honestly, just the wonderful folx at Pole Pressure.
What motivates you to train?
Keeping my physical being from falling apart, but on a deeper level it’s a drive to be scared and then do the scary things anyway. If I can show up to a pole dancing class and rock out in my spiciest clothes and fall down and try again, and look good doing it, I can definitely handle the other challenges of being outside the gender binary.
What are some of your goals for this year?
I would like to choreograph and perfect a routine that I could perform for my partners at the local kink club. Being able to dance in a public space with so many eyes on me would be very righteous.
Why do you love Pole Pressure?
I have found Pole Pressure to be a welcoming and accepting space, where I have never been made to feel like I don’t belong.
