May 2020 Student of the Month: Amy
When did you start your journey with classes at Pole Pressure?
I took my first classes at Pole Pressure in August 2018—I did pole for about a month before I tried aerial hoop, and then pretty much immediately knew that's what I wanted to do! I have gone back and done a pole class here and there, but mostly I'm in the studio for hoop and stretch.
Why did you decide to try pole dancing/classes at pole pressure?
I was pretty intentional about it, actually, and then aerial hoop caught me totally by surprise. I needed a fitness hobby that would be interesting enough that I would keep going, and pole dancing seemed like the least boring activity I could think of. Then I got on a Lyra and fell in love...but I do still want to build up some pole skills!
What do you love most about pole dancing/classes at pole pressure?
I love love love being in the air. Especially being upside down or spinning. There's a bunch of other positives—building strength and constantly learning new things and so on—but the honest answer is just that I love being in the air.
Why do you love Pole Pressure?
This is going to sound absolutely cliché but it is definitely the people! I am historically not an athletic person and athletic spaces can be really intimidating for me. But everyone at the studio has held space for me to be as shy as I needed to be and is always super supportive. <3
If you could train with any of your pole/aerial/fitness idols, who would it be and why?
Toni Tabasco (@tonitabasco on Instagram). She is super strong and moves like I wish I could, and her performances all have a sense of humor to them that I find really appealing. Also, she does Elvis impersonations on Lyra, which is so cool to me for some reason?!?
